Gerald Sensabaugh, Jr. (born June 13, 1983 in Oakland, California) is an American football Safety for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fifth round of the 2005 NFL Draft. He played college football at North Carolina. Early yearsSensabaugh attended Dobyns-Bennett High School and was a a standout in football and track. In football, he led his team to two consecutive Class 5A Semifinals and was an All-Big Nine selection his senior year. In track, he won a state championship in the triple jump. College careerHe began his collegiate career at East Tennessee State University but transferred to the University of North Carolina as a senior when ETSU disbanded their football program. He finished his one year Carolina career with four interceptions, five fumble recoveries, and three touchdowns. Sensabaugh tied an NCAA single game record after blocking three punts in one game. He was selected by the Jaguars in the fifth round (157th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft. Sensabaugh also recorded a 46'6 vertical at the combine, the highest ever for an NFL player. Professional careerSensabaugh immediately stood out on the Jaguar team; one of few rookies who played in every game his first season. He was a star amongst the special teams, and in the playoffs of his rookie year, he got a chance to start for the remainder of the season at strong safety after Pro Bowler Donovin Darius got hurt. In the 2006 season, he continued to shine on all special teams, and then halfway through the season, he yet again received a starting spot when Darius incurred a season ending knee injury. |
